Health,  Humour,  That's Life

some ‘staches’ happening here ….

‘Tis November already … and here in our corner of the world, mustaches are being grown, reshaped, and groomed in honour of Movember

… for those of you not familiar with the term ….

Movember (a portmanteau of the Australian-English diminutive word for moustache, “mo”, and “November”) is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at (you will automatically be re-directed to the Movember campaign specific to your country). The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health.”

By encouraging men (whom the charity refers to as “Mo Bros”) to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Frank has plans to reshape his upper lip bristle into something fuller (he’d had a full beard for many years but had to shave it off a couple of years ago for a medical test and I subsequently convinced him to not grow it back and keep only the mustache :>)). Son is sporting the 1970’s cop look and has plans to ‘handlebar’ it. SiL has the beard and ‘stache thing happening always and our eldest grandson, now shaving for over a year, is going to grow his first full ‘stache … all in support of raising funds and awareness …

Frank, a cancer survivor, and I are both advocates for men and women health (I have breast cancer history in my family), but men especially because they are often neglectful of their own health. We invite you, if you have special ‘stache growing abilities, or if you don’t, to invite the special men in your lives who do, to join in the fun … pics may follow at the end of the month … lol!

I have a Hercule Poirot t-shirt. (Dame Agatha’s famous Belgian detective with the ginormous moustaches.) I think I’ll bust it out for Movember. πŸ˜‰

I love that you are featuring this reminder to folks, Nora Jean. Get your guy to get his PSA checked!!! Sam has always had a full beard, although it is mostly white now. And one son sports a beautiful red beard. “Not all heroes wear capes. Some grow them!”Hugs From Ella

I love a beard … but when Frank had to shave it all off, I thought the ‘non grizzled’ look took some years off so he agreed to leave it … the bristley little ‘stache he left on however, …. it’s given me a tickle or two in all the right places … lol! … and I love your quote! … nj … xx
